A massive hack of Twitter accounts described as “a coordinated social engineering” in which multiple high profile users are hacked. Various high profile users including Tesla’s Elon Musk, Ex-US President Barack Obama, Amazon’s Jeff Bezos are targeted.

This morning, Twitter’s CEO Jack Dorsey tweeted about the hacking “tough day for us at Twitter”.

He further said “We all feel terrible this happened. We’re diagnosing and will share everything we can when we have a more complete understanding of exactly what happened”.

Twitter disabled the validated accounts from posting tweets for two hours after Scammers trying to trick people by sending cryptocurrency bitcoin and hijacked the users’ profiles.

A tweet posted from Elon Musk’s account was about bitcoins: “Happy Wednesday! I am giving back Bitcoin to all of my followers. I am doubling all payments sent to the Bitcoin address below. You send 0.1 BTC, I send 0.2 BTC back!” The offer was valid “only for 30 minutes”.

After that Gemini cryptocurrency exchange co-founder Cameron Winklevoss tweeted from his official account that “This is a SCAM, DO NOT participate!”

“Accounts that were targeted should be able to tweet again” later said by Microblogging site.

They further said that “We detected what we believe to be a coordinated social engineering attack by people who successfully targeted some of our employees with access to internal systems and tools”.

Among other high profile accounts, Rapper Kayne West’s profile, Microsoft Co-founder Bill Gates’s profile was also hacked.

This is not the first time when twitter accounts are hijacked.
